Utilising red handmade bricks enabled this modern apartment building structure to integrate comfortably in this classical, inner eastern Melbourne neighbourhood. The rich, warm tones mimic the old red bricks used to build the shopping precinct last century. The Brick Tile is our Las Losas ‘Londres’ blend, Roman profile 240 x 40mm. Martino Leah and Ironside are to be commended on this outstanding building.

This residential building project involved tiling to a significant concrete structure that featured fibre cement sheet internal walls to balconies, for approximately 400m2.  The adoption of Brick Tiling construction methods by IRONSIDE afforded this builder a quick and efficient time line. The site also featured the use of many Corner pieces, to ensure the impression of utilising genuine solid red handmade bricks was created.

From street level, the building appears to have been created as a structure that preserved existing masonry elements … paying homage to the materials and techniques used in this precinct 100 years ago. In fact, the site was formerly a popular nursery adjoining a few small businesses, occupying a relatively small foot print. This new structure is a remarkable addition to this important inner Eastern shopping precinct.

Comparing to the original renders, the blend of brick chosen is a slightly bolder red blend. That said, we think this will be received very sympathetically in the neighbourhood where this exact colour predominates in the predominantly Edwardian era buildings.
